Singing Scholars

It is the distinct pleasure of the Warren Civic Chorus to introduce the Singing Scholars Program (WCC SSP).   As the Warren Civic Chorus has been singing the great choral literature, George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah” for more than sixty years, we think it is important to promote this great music to our young generations.  The Warren Civic Chorus Board has decided to select up to 4 college singers and 4 high school singers (possibly including 8th graders if she/he presents sufficient ability to learn the music and participate in the program) and offer the WCC SSP award in this upcoming season.

The Warren Civic Chorus offers this great opportunity for aspiring high school and college singers to experience a memorable musical experience with a professional orchestra, great choir, professional soloists, and professional conductor. The students will be able to accumulate their community service hours through this participation. They will be able to build a life-long love of the great musical literature.

At the completion of the program, qualifying participating students will receive a monetary scholarship and certificate. We will recognize the recipients during the December 3 concert.

In order to complete the WCC SSP, the participants will have to attend minimum 5 regular rehearsals (Mondays during October and November), dress rehearsal (Saturday, December 2, 10 AM—12:30 PM) and the concert (Sunday, December 3, 6:00 PM).  They will have to learn the music during the regular rehearsals. As Handel’s Messiah is one of the greatest choral literature and a difficult music to learn and perform in a high level, we provide the learning tracks to the participants from CYBERBASS.COM:

Therefore, as long as the aspiring singer has good ears and good tone, he/she will be able to accomplish a high level performance.

The application deadline will be Monday, October 2, 2023, and the application forms can be downloaded using the links below.
